THE STRAIGHT JACKET

MJ Innocent

In a world where the media builds celebrities up like papier-mâché parade floats only to gleefully set them on fire the moment they wobble, one fandom refuses to accept reality, gravity, or basic common sense. When the cult of celebrity collapses, most people sigh, shrug, and get on with their day. But not them. Oh no. Michael Jackson stans treat every headline like a personal attack and every documentary like an act of war.

While the planet wrestles with war, poverty, disease, deforestation, and the general collapse of civilisation, this curious tribe remains laser‑focused on one thing: polishing the halo of a man who hasn’t released a new song since the last Labour government. Global crises? Human suffering? Melting ice caps? Sorry, they’re busy editing another 47‑minute YouTube essay titled “THE TRUTH THEY DON’T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT MICHAEL JACKSON (PART 12).”

Armed with hashtags, homemade documentaries, and the unwavering confidence of people who’ve never read a primary source in their lives, they swarm social media like glitter‑covered hornets. #MJInnocent trends every other Tuesday, usually accompanied by a barrage of comments accusing journalists of being part of a shadowy anti‑MJ cabal. They’ve built their own forums, their own news sites, and—if rumours are to be believed—their own alternative universe where Jackson never did anything remotely questionable and the laws of physics bend politely around him.

No allegation is too serious, no evidence too inconvenient. If Michael Jackson did it, he didn’t. If he didn’t do it, he definitely did it, but in a good way. And if you disagree, you’re either a hater, a liar, or a paid agent of the Illuminati (who apparently have nothing better to do).

But this isn’t just a story about one fandom’s refusal to touch grass. It’s a wider warning about what happens when people worship celebrities with the same fervour usually reserved for ancient gods or limited‑edition Pokémon cards. While the world burns, some would rather moonwalk into denial than face the messy, complicated truth of human beings—especially famous ones.

So the question remains: how long can this bizarre performance continue? Is the media really the villain, or are stans simply spinning themselves into a dizzying vortex of delusion? And by insisting their idol was a flawless, misunderstood angel, are they actually tarnishing the very legacy they claim to protect?

Coming soon: a darkly comic exploration of fandom, fantasy, and the fine line between devotion and delusion. THE STRAIGHT JACKET—because sometimes the most dangerous place isn’t Neverland… it’s the inside of a stan’s mind.
